I hung a sign on the door to his room stating that he was non-verbal and could only eat pureed food. Well the very next weekend something else happened & I was back in her office the following Monday. She asked me to give them another chance & said she would have a meeting with her nurses. When I found out who the aide was that gave him the crackers, she said "Oh I don't normally work on this floor!" Hhm! Wouldn't that be more of a reason to look him up on the computer to see what his special needs are?" I made her look it up while I watched & sure enough, it stated that he was to be on pureed food only! She said, "Oh, I didn't know!" So I Monday morning I met with the director of nursing about the issue.

My daughters walked in and saw him trying to eat the crackers (he had already finished 2 of them) so they took them away from him & called me. The very first weekend he was there he was given peanut butter and cheese crackers by a nurses aide. His stroke left him unable to talk, unable to walk on his own, unable to use the restroom on his own & unable to eat regular food. He spent 34 days in the hospital & then was transferred to Willowbend where he stayed for 5 months. My husband was taken to this government/VA run facility after having a severe stroke. However, I'm not sure I can say any other positive comments about Willowbend nursing home & rehab facility. NanaLaura The place looks nice from the outside & someone up there works hard at decorating for each holiday.
